Saraki of the All Progressives Congress, APC, beat Ahmed Lawan also of the APC and a preferred candidate to emerge the Senate president.
He was nominated by Sani Yerima and seconded by Dino Melaye and has since been sworn into office.
The position for Senate Deputy President is still vacant as election is ongoing at the moment. Immediate past deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, is contesting against Ali Ndume from Borno State.
